Obstacle Course race training camp

 What better way to prepare for the 2018 season than an intense couple of days, at high altitude, training with OCR and fitness professionals?
Join us on April 27th-29th or August 3-5th (or both) at Camp Como for a special OCR training camp!
At over 10,000 feet, Camp Como is the perfect place to hone in and tune up your fitness and OCR skills before race season.
This camp has acres of gorgeous trails through the woods, on-site obstacles, rock climbing walls, monkey bars, access to high mountain peaks and everything you need to prepare for your 2018 races.

Spring session:

Join us for the April session to prepare for the Spartan Sprint and Super at Fort Carson the following weekend.

This camp includes: 


Summer session:

In the August session we will perfect those trail running and power hiking skills. We will be working towards greater fitness and skills work to prepare for the August Spartan race and September Tough Mudder events.

This camp includes: 

  • Trail running techniques and skills clinic
  • Summit of Silverheels, a favorite local 13er
  • Lots of fun teamwork and challenges
  • Outdoor rockclimbing to work on grip strength
  • Skills based clinics and presentations with OCR and fitness professionals (below)
  • Sport specific strength work.  Think about how often you needed more functional strength your last OCR.
  • Mental approach to different aspects of training and competing.  Your presenters will be prepping you in all facets of getting better, not just physical.

Clinics and presentations: 

  • Tony Middleton, the only front range Spartan SGX coach will be leading a 90 minute hands-on session on:
    – Falling safely
    – Crawling and vaulting
    – Cat leaps
    – Increasing safety through efficiency of movement
  • Presentation with Sara Woodward AND/OR Nicole Mericle:
    – Tips and tricks for conquering 30 of the toughest OCR obstacles.  Insider tips for successfully completing Spartan and Tough Mudder obstacles.
    – Training hacks: Including a typical routine, pre/during/ and post race recovery


  • Presentation with Scott Jones, exercise physiologist and coach:
    Scaling your training for your next OCR.  How to structure your own training program to reach your OCR goals- how much should you be running, strength training, etc?


  • 2-3 hour coached practice through a mock course with rope climb, walls, monkey bars, crawls and carries.  We will practice each obstacle as much as you need to feel confident!


  • Skills based clinic:  Using your natural surroundings for OCR training.  60 minute session to teach you takeaway drills, skills and workout ideas to continue training on your own.


  • Skills based clinic:  Trail running techniques with Lauren Jones.  Learn how to master technical terrain and steep inclines with ease + drills to do at home to improve your trail running fitness and form.

Sample itinerary: 


Find a group carpool (we will setup a carpool contact form) and make your way up to Como.  Check in between 1-3pm, free time to check out the camp and meet your follow OCR athletes.

4pm:  First training session with Tony!

5:30pm:  Dinner

6:30pm Special presentation: scaling your OCR training for the 2018 season with Scott Jones

8am:  Get to bed early, it’s going to be a long weekend…..
7am: Breakfast

8:30-11:30am Mock course and obstacle skills work

11:45:  Lunch
Free time to try out one of the many fun activities at camp
2pm:  Rock climbing!! Work on grip strength and technique
4pm:  Speed disc!  A fun cardio game through the woods that will get your heart pumping (or maybe that’s just the 10,000 foot elevation)
5:30pm  Dinner
6:30pm:  Special presentation:  Tips and tricks for conquering 30 of the toughest OCR obstacles with Sara Woodward AND/OR Nicole Mericle
8pm:  Head to bed, if you aren’t tired yet you will be after tomorrow…..


6am:  Early breakfast 
7:30am  Start hike or snowshoe 
12-1pm:  Back for lunch 
2pm:  Last session:  Using your natural surroundings for OCR training.  60 minute session to teach you takeaway drills, skills and workout ideas to continue training on your own.
4pm:  Pack up and make sure to exchange emails and say goodbye to your new friends!
